Out there right now in New Zealand, little Tomo Chisnall (and Skate Further chum!) is beginning a journey that has been 19 months in the planning. He’s attempting to skate the length of New Zealand on a Rolls Rolls woody, with support from a good mate in a van. Tomo’s story is pretty emotional: losing his best friend Marcus to cancer, and suffering a tonne of other struggles along the way to getting started - it’s just brilliant news to hear that he’s finally kicked off the adventure. You can visit his site here to find out what he’s up to. Good luck Tomo!

Bit late on this one I’m afraid, better late than never…

The King of the forest push race in Vancouver, Canada is really leading the way in distance races. Now in it’s 5th year, the 20km longboard endurance race offers a $1000 first place prize, a hefty amount for any kind of race.

The race itself is partnered with Metro Vancouver and the BC Brain Injury Association to promote and deliver a challenging and fun form of recreation for all rider skill levels and runs along the Seymour Valley Trailway in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.

Skatefurther forum member Paul ‘Fuzzydeer’ Kent claimed the King title again this year with a time of 38 minutes, whilst fellow Rayne rider Brianne Davies claimed the Queen. Paul’s Wife, Rachel got third in the womens.

Gav, the man behind the Wrong Way Home trip that happened a month or so back , has been working hard for the last year on a website called Longboard Sessions. Basically it lets you tell like minded people about a session that is happening in your area; be it slalom, sliding, DH, distance or dancin’.

Sign up, tell people about what is going on where you are, hook up and shred. The UK is a small but exploding scene and Gav is at the forefront pushing people together for fun-times.

As seen in the NZ section of the forum, Tomo is about to set off on his epic cross-country skate. Forum member Nat remembers his own 2008 skate with fond memories…

The roads are brutal, the roughest surface I have ever skated on. The sun in NZ is the harshest in the world. The traffic is crazy and the hills are just insane. Tomo will have the best time in his life! The people of NZ are generous, helpful and the just love someone doing something as insane as skating across their country.

Tomo has a wicked website with a blog, map, youtube channel and photos that will keep you up to date with what is going on. Freedom skate also has a facebook page which will keep you updated. His skate will be raising money for the Nelson Region Hospice and the Nelson Cancer Society. Two charities that are very close to his heart.

From the 4th - 7th of September, Gav and Mark, 2 web developers from Holiday Extras will be attempting to get back from Brighton to Canterbury in 4 days for the Alzheimer’s Society. This WOULD be an easy task in a car or even on a bike, but they’ve decided to make life interesting by doing it on skateboards… and going the WRONG WAY. Gav and Mark will be heading out round the coast to Whitstable before cutting in to the home straight back to Canterbury, a journey totaling over 150 miles.

While you think of them, blistered and aching as they make their way along, take a moment to donate some money to their cause. Alzheimer’s is a terrible debilitating disease that no one should have to suffer and everything we can do makes a difference.

You can keep up to date with whats going down on the skatefurther forum, on the Canterballs Longboarding page and on their facebook page. This is just the beginning, keep your eye on the forum for more and bigger trips!
