About Us

Who are we?
To quote forum member Pete:
We are a community of longboarders with a passion to skatefurther - whether to get fit, to go places or just for fun. We support each other and any other people that want to do the same, in anyway we can. We organise events, from the 24 hour Ultraskate, to the B2B, to Skatefurther:AtoB.
Skate Further was founded in 2007 to help promote the growing long distance skating community in the UK and further afield. We wanted to bring people together who had similar goals, interests and talents - people who weren’t afraid to push slightly further than they expected to.
CORE WEB TEAM:
The website here is run by a team of 5 passionate skaters, who want nothing more than to see you smile on a skateboard:

Nat Halliday (wafflesole) is a lynchpin of British distance skating. A skater practically since birth, he rides park, bowl and pool, frequents slalom podiums and along with a few other lovely people, rode his beloved Rayne Demonseed the length of New Zealand…he’s also a brand new daddy and we expect to see young Noah rolling around with his old man fairly soon. Nat will represent Skate Further’s first team member to live in the Southern Hemisphere, as he returns there with his family in 2010. He runs the front end of the site with Laura.

Ben Colchester-Hall (skatefurther ben) is one of those skaters who will always push some boundary somewhere. Having taken part in the first UK Ultraskate with Nat at Dorney, and almost pushed from John O’Groats to Land’s End (blame the cattle grids of Dartmoor), Ben will continue to wear lycra, push like a beast and try and beat you all. Watch out for more crazy innovations from Ben in 2010. He runs the forum with Tom, tests things to destruction, and is responsible for making sure that your experience here is SPAM free.

Tom Lewis (crash bandicoot) rides all over the UK, partially destroying himself in the process. A keen surfer, mountain boarder and longboard rider, Viking Tom, as he is known, likes to go fast on the hills around delightful Wales, and whilst we all would recommend Tom takes a break after knee surgery in 2010, we know he won’t sit still for long. Tom manages the forum with Ben and also deals with a lot of product testing.

Laura Hatwell (skatersjourney) replaced original Skate Further founder Sam Benson, who moved onto pastures new. She has crewed the Boardfree Australia journey, and works hard to promote the benefits of skating far to the masses. Along with Nat, she comes up with content and manages front end design for Skate Further. Somewhere along the way, she also manages to find time to train to be a teacher and this summer skated the true length of Scotland (Shetland, Orkney, Mainland baby).

Rob Hanson is Skate Further’s addition for 2010 - he’s a dedicated and talented skater, and shreds in all disciplines. Rob has a strong faith, a strong heart and really, really strong legs. He makes skating 100 miles look effortless! Rob has taken on the duty of keeping Skate Further journals in order, and raising the stoke in general. Welcome Rob!
STREET TEAM:

Christopher Vallender made himself known to us all at Goodwood Roller Marathon last year. His love of distance skating has seen him literally carve a niche for himself in the Paris skate scene, and we thought it was about time he came on board to tell us how he’s spreading the stoke out there. Welcome Chris!
ATTENTION! WE ARE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR STREET TEAMERS IN ASIA, THE USA AND CANADA!
Street teamers feed information onto blogs, raise the profile of distance skating in their area, and provide content for the site without all the hassle of actually having to fiddle around with web design. Free Schwag provided to make you Skate Further in style!
